Instagram age limit
Instagram requires everyone to be at least 13 years old before they create and use an Instagram account; this is the first point in the apps Terms of Use. If your child is younger than 13 and has created an account, it is recommended that they delete their account. The following is a link to tell you how to do this.
If you suspect a child under 13 has an account
You can also report accounts you think belong to someone under the age of 13, or if you think someone is pretending to be a child who is under 13, by completing a form. You may be asked to prove that they are under the minimum age of 13. The following is a link to the form to be used to report this.
Impersonation (Fake) Accounts
If someone has created an account pretending to be someone else, report the account; this is against Term of Use point 3. If the account has been created in your child's name you can request for the account to be closed; you may be asked to provide photographic id (ie a passport or ZIP card) for the person being impersonated. Parents can do this for a child; if you have an account, you are able to do this from within the app, if you don’t you will be required to complete an online form; a link to this form is below.
Often people who create impersonation accounts on any social media site do so for malicious reasons. If your child does access age appropriate social media sites, encourage them to always use the report abuse button and block the account if another user is being rude or unkind to them.
