Black History Month Part 2

On Wednesday 20th October 2021, the mayor for Barking and Dagenham, Edna Fergus, came to visit our year 6 children at the Cannington Road site to find out about their learning for Black History Month.  Children from year 6 discussed all of their learning and explained why it is so important for them to learn about equalities and diversity, before attending a special assembly where the mayor spoke to the children about the importance of believing in yourself and never letting anybody talk down to you.

Edna later sent a lovely message to the children stating:   Thank you to the children and staff of Roding Primary School for inviting me to share in their celebration of Black History Month.

The pleasure was all mine.  I was greatly impressed by the broad range of reading material and pictorial displays; recognising the historical achievements of black people from across the world, including the UK and Caribbean.

I enjoyed listening to and speaking with the children and it filled me with hope to hear them express their understanding of the importance of equality and diversity.  All credit to everyone who are supporting them on this journey.

Our young people are a credit to our borough Barking and Dagenham and I wish them well as they follow their dreams and aspirations.
