Councillor carpenter visit

A devastating fire gutted 8 classrooms at Roding Primary School, Hewett Road n 2018. I got to the school early in the morning with the Leader, Cllr Darren Rodwell, to see the London Fire Brigade still working on the flames. I was on the TV praising the school staff for their speedy response. All classes were back in action in 2 days and yesterday I visited the school again to see the new classrooms. Jackie Dunmow, Head Teacher, showed me the new buildings. Here she is chatting with Emily Jones, who was a Year 2 teacher at the time of the fire and now leads an informal provision, the Harbour, for children who need extra support. You can see the length of the corridor that was gutted and some of the wonderful facilities put in place for the children both outside and in the school.

it was a pleasure visiting Roding Primary School to hear about the improvements that had been made to the school to strengthen teaching and learning. The pupils were happy and focused on their learning and well-informed about Remembrance Day: they had had a 2 minute silence earlier in the day at 11.00am. There was plenty on display to show the inclusive and forward looking ethos at this good school. I liked the reading hubs for each year group. Thank you to the school staff, governors, pupils, parents and carers for all your dedication and hard work.
