Key Stage 1 Curriculum
Help at Home
Reading out loud to someone at home on a regular basis can really help your child to access the curriculum in school. It will also develop their confidence and a love for literature.
In maths encourage your children to look out for and read numbers (i.e. when shopping, front of a bus, counting pennies, etc.). Start to add, take away and share items (for example sharing sweets equally with friends or siblings) up to 10. In year 2 please help them to recognise numbers up to 100 and place them in order. Start to estimate and order lengths and other measures (i.e. weight when cooking). You could also start to talk about the time with your children, including how long activities take (duration), when it is o'clock and half past.
Specific information on the content of the English and Maths curriculum has also been included.
