Welcome to Our English Curriculum

At Roding Primary, we aim for our children to be motivated to read for both study and pleasure and become lifelong readers. We aim to create effective, efficient, accurate and fluent readers across a wide range of contexts and throughout the curriculum. Through reading rich and varied texts, we aim to develop deep comprehension skills, a wide knowledge, a rich understanding and the ability to express themselves as critical and creative thinkers.

Roding has recently adopted the Little Wandle scheme in order to teach children early reading. This is taught from R-Y2. Children who are struggling readers also have access to phonics children’s phonic learning. Phonics is taught beyond Year 2 and children are streamed in Year 3 in order to support the reading of those who are continuing to struggle as readers.
